BaByVFSS Impairment Profile

BaByVFSS Impairment Profile (BaByVFSSImP™) is the first standardized assessment tool designed to quantify swallowing function based on observations from videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) in bottle-fed infants.

Research by Martin-Harris et al. (2020) highlights BaByVFSSImP's potential to identify physiologically based intervention targets, guide clinical decisions regarding enteral feeding, and monitor the progression of swallowing impairments throughout early development.

BaByVFSSImP™ offers a structured protocol for interpreting and communicating VFSS results in bottle-fed infants. Its self-guided training program teaches participants to evaluate 21 components of swallowing using a standardized scoring system. The course includes interactive practice with VFSS interpretation, and participants demonstrate competency through reliability zone testing.

Participants can progress at their own pace, pause and resume as needed, and take unlimited time to complete the training. Reliability testing can be repeated to meet the required competency threshold. The course is tailored for speech-language pathologists with a focus on bottle-fed infants.

Standardization in VFSS improves exam consistency, enhances clinical collaboration, reduces variability, and advances knowledge in dysphagia management (Martin-Harris et al., 2020). The TIMS Medical team is excited to witness the positive impact of BaByVFSSImP™ in clinical practice.
